THE ABBA UNCOVERED EXPERIENCE

Welcome to the fifth and last day!

Money, Money, Money

Years ago, an a cappella group that I’m now a former member of, performed an a cappella arrangement (meaning - only with voices) of "Money, Money, Money" at a big event in Stockholm. And I thought it would be fun to tweak the arrangement and make it a bonus track on the EP!

How Money, Money, Money came to life.

I was no longer with the group when this project started, but they were very positive to this collaboration! I had made guest apperances with them at times when I've been back in Sweden and we've kept in touch as friends. It goes without saying since the name of the group is "Riltons Vänner", in English "Friends of Rilton's"! :) After touching up the arrangement, I made my way to the basement studio of Sebastian’s (who sings bass and percussion in the group) and Linnéa’s (who sings soprano) home, and recorded a quick demo for the rest of the group to add their harmonies to. Later on we didn’t have time to redo my vocals so ones again we ended up using the demo vocals :) Mixes where sent back and forth until we were happy!

Here you can listen to the rehearsal back in 2018 when we prepared for the event in Stockholm. It's two songs put together, "Super Trouper" being the first one, leading into "Money, Money, Money".

As we went along with the recording, a video came to mind. Especially Daniel in the group and I, brainstormed ideas on how we could do a video filled with humour, making a point about this crazy money focused society we live in, and speaking of Money - it couldn’t cost too much :)

We came up with a framework, asked our very charming friend and colleague Terje if he wanted to act as the “Rich man”, I borrowed a camera from a friend and rented a studio in a camera store where people could see right in (good for them!) and improvised! That’s actually what this group do so well. It was a few hours of craziness, and I’m so grateful they wanted to be a part of it!!

I made a simple choreography which I walked them through then and there, Terje was rocking every part of the acting and dancing, and Sebastian (who also made the arrangement!) figured out the camera that we just put on a stand since we had no videographer. As you can see, everything is filmed from the same angle. But it works! Daniel did a great job editing with assistance from me. Oliva, the videograpger for "Dancing Queen", helped adjust the colors and grade. It was a true DIY (Do It Yourself) production. Very fun!
